What are “Superfoods”?
-
Definition - “A food that is rich in compounds (such as antioxidants, fibre or fatty acids) considered beneficial to a person’s health.”
-
Examples - spinach; cruciferous vegetables such as broccoli and cauliflower; fruits including pomegranate, blueberries and oranges; oily fish such as salmon and mackerel. Nutrients such as flavonoids have been demonstrated to help reduce cancer risk, certain fibres and saponins help reduce cholesterol and support heart health.
-
Superfood or Super Bowl?! And no we’re not talking gridiron here (even though we are Seahawks fans!) - the Superfoods range from whole includes superfood blends within complete diets which contain other powerful nutrients in plentiful packages. For example, the range features high inclusions of freshly prepared salmon, beef or duck all providing a great protein profile as well as collagen which supports healthy joint function. Our carbs are provided in low GI form from sweet potato which in itself is rich in beta carotene and soluble fibre.
2. Why do we add them to food?
-
Pets are special - we want them to be happy and healthy for as long as possible
-
We lead busy lives with family, work and everything else going on so complete food is so convenient - but it should be as good as a freshly prepared option! In human terms - we’ve become accustomed to the “5 A Day” message recommending that we eat a healthy mix of fruit and veg, our pets tend to eat the majority of their intake in terms of what’s in their food bowl. As such we ensure that whole pets receive their optimum intake of not only the basic nutrients but also the benefit of added extras such as the superfood blend, prebiotics and omega 3s which can enhance their wellbeing.
3. What difference will it make to my pet?
-
Prevention is better than cure - in many cases we won’t see an obvious and massive difference in the short term, but we’d expect the “prime years” to last longer with increased vitality into senior years, and hopefully less likelihood of illness or early decline.
-
These diets also feature great quality, highly digestible ingredients and are totally grain free - lots of dogs thrive and have better digestion, skin and coat as a result.
-
Overall - we believe these diets help in ways we can see, and in other really important ways which we can’t. Whether it’s giving your puppy the best possible start with a salmon diet which is rich in omega 3 to help develop healthy eyes and brain or choosing the right option for your adult dog from our beef, duck and salmon options we have a range designed to help them live their best lives for longer!
So, if you are interested in what you’ve read above - watch this space for more detail on the superfoods we use and how they’re blended with the very best ingredients to provide a super bowl for your dog, or click through to our Superfood range page to choose your favourite. Our Noah has been in the best of health - both the bounce in his step and the firmness of his poo (believe me this was once a challenge) attest to how well he's done, we've given him both the English Country Duck and British Free Range Chicken versions over the past few months and he loves both!
